Nanyang Technological University's NTU new medical school will be pioneering the use of plastinated bodies for medical education in Singapore. Plastinated bodies are human bodies which people have pledged towards the learning and advancement of science upon their death and are preserved through plastination. These human bodies are preserved by replacing the fat and water in body tissues with plastic. The human bodies and body parts, known as specimens, will be used in anatomy classes taught at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine LKCMedicineand will be ready for the first batch of 54 medical students this August.

D espite being the training grounds of one of the most trusted professions, medical schools have quite an unsavoury reputation. Rumours abound of archaic hazing rituals and alcohol-fuelled nights out to "release stress", ranging from the once-famous Princeton Nude Olympics to the recent much-publicised antics of my own fellow doctors-to-be. Thankfully, UK medical schools have been largely purged of such humiliating rituals and where they do exist, they are mainly mild and viewed as curious remnants from a different age.

A group of students from the Royal School of Veterinary Studies is to launch a naked calendar to support homeless pets in need. As part of the fundraising appeal, a student naked calendar will be created with all the money raised being donated to All4Paws. All4Paws is a charity initiated and run by vet students offering free veterinary care to the pets of people who are homeless or vulnerably housed.
