Students graduating with academic honors must have earned at least 60 credits at Ball State and a total of at least credits including transfer credits. If final grades change the honors designation, the new designation will be printed on the diploma and transcript. Students who qualify for a medallion will be sent instructions on picking it up.
These are terms given to college graduates who achieve high grade point averages. In other words, they indicate that the student receiving this distinction has been extremely successful in their academic program. Most often, you will see "summa" and "magna" connected to the Latin words, "cum laude" meaning "with honor.
Honors are awarded at graduation to undergraduate students who complete with distinction at least 60 semester credit hours of undergraduate course work at the University of Utah. Fifty or more of those hours must bear letter grades. Transfer hours and credit by examination are not used in the computation of honors.
To recognize outstanding academic achievement, the College awards degrees cum laude, magna cum laude and summa cum laude. The overall grade point average required for a degree cum laude is 3. This honor is noted on the student's diploma and on the academic transcript.

Cum laude is Latin for "with honor" literally "with praise" and serves as a way to distinguish students with exemplary academic success. Schools confer honors in a variety of ways and there is no standardized set of criteria. Most colleges award three tiers of honors cum laude, magna cum laude, and summa cum laude based on the college's own unique requirements.
Your parents will be beaming at your graduation ceremony when they see you walk across stage wearing honors regalia with your graduation gown. Graduation honors denote academic achievement beyond completion of the basic requirements for earning a college degree. Before commencement, school administration and faculty select students deserving special recognition for outstanding grades, leadership and other exemplary qualities.
When determining eligibility for honors, repeated courses and grades awarded in all courses taken at all colleges and universities attended are included in computing the Grade Point Average GPA. Engineering students with outstanding scholastic records are automatically considered for the special honor of graduation With Distinction, With High Distinction, or With Highest Distinction upon the recommendation of the College faculty. Each department has additional requirements for students meeting the GPA requirement for graduation with High Distinction to be eligible for graduation with Highest Distinction.
